The Sky Below

A work loosely around the light of the sky, and its recipients, object, tree and the human figure. Exploring darkness, an accompanying longing and video pushed to its limits, sometimes becoming still to be seen.

In its pursuit of light, ‘The Sky Below’ seeks to lay bare the material properties of video, especially in darkness. To the point where the making of the image is not solely limited to the camera, but to the conditions in which it is viewed. Much like the Impressionists, there is an awareness of the place of viewing that becomes slowly intrinsic to the work in its making. One needs darkness to see darkness, and a degree of silence to hear deep night.
